KREUTZER Rodolphe (1766-1831)
P.S. "Kreutzer premier violon de la chappelle de Sa Majesté L'Empereur", co-signed by 8 other musicians and by Marshal NEY, following an L.S. by MichelAugustin QUINEBAUX at the Grand Maréchal du Palais impérial [Michel DUROC], Paris 8 January 1805; 3 pages in-fol. Michel-Augustin QUINEBAUX, 32 years old, former student at the Pages de la Musique de Louis XVI and for nine years first viola of the OpéraComique, asks for "the first viola place that will become vacant" in the music of the Emperor's Chapel... Marshal NEY supports the request, with a marginal apostille: "I am very interested in Mr Quinebaux, who is very recommendable in all respects."... Nine "musical artists" beg the Grand Marshal to grant this request. Following the famous violinist and composer Rodolphe KREUTZER (to whom Beethoven dedicated his famous sonata for violin and piano), the composers André GRÉTRY (1741-1813), Luigi CHERUBINI (1760-1842), Étienne-Nicolas MÉHUL (1763-1817), François-Joseph GOSSEC (1734-1829), Charles-Henri PLANTADE (1764-1839), Nicolas DALARYAC (1753-1809, "attesting that one cannot say too much about the petitioner's talent and morality") and Henri BERTON (1766-1844), and Louis-Luc de PERSUIS, second conductor of the Emperor's Music.
