LALO ÉDOUARD (1823-1892)
L.A.S. " E. Lalo", May 26, 1888, [to Mrs. Auguste SCHEURERKESTNER]; 3 pages and a half in-8. "Do you still remember that your husband, six or seven years ago, used all the means at his disposal to have The King of Ys represented? - Both of you had heard fragments of it, and only at that time did you trust me. - For two months, Mr. Scheurer generously put his time and influence at the service of my cause. - His warmth failed, but already at that time I had decided that if ever The King of Ys came into being, the score would bear your name and his name..." But in the "irritation and bewilderment of the first performances" Lalo had not even noticed that the score had no dedication. So he ran to the publisher: "this deplorable omission" could be explained by a lost sheet of paper. "Hartmann has just repaired this error, and all new prints will have the sheet without which my score is not complete in my eyes "... A draft letter from the choirmaster Maxime THOMAS to Camille SAINTSAËNS is attached about a project for a SaintSaëns festival in the castle of Blois (1909).
