LISZT Franz (1811-1886)
L.A.S. " F. Liszt", Rome 2 December 1881, to a "Very honored Director" [Jean-Théodore RADOUX, Director of the Royal Conservatory of Liège and of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire]; 4 pages in-8. Project for a concert of his works in Liège. "Various circumstances, useless to explain, prevent me from deciding what I will become next year. ...] At my age travel becomes expensive. From the German text of my Legend of St. Elizabeth there are translations in Hungarian, Bohemian, English, made on the occasion of the performance of this work in Budapest, Prag, London; but the French translation is missing. However, if one persists in the project of having Liszt's works performed in Liege, he proposes the following programme: "1. Mass for male voices (C minor and major) with organ accompaniment (or great Harmonium). 2. "Les Béatitudes" - fragment of the oratorio Le Christ - (Baritone voice, with choir and organ accompaniment, without orchestra). 3. Symphony from Dante's "Divine Comedy". Nos. 1 and 3 are published by Breitkopf & Härtel, Leipzig: The Beatitudes by Kahnt, Leizig. Of the Mass, the second edition, very revised and corrected. It was performed last winter in Vienna "...
