Work of a rare insignia. Herbert Schneider's research for the catalogue of Lully's work (1981) showed that, apart from our copy, there are only four complete copies in libraries (three in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and one in Sweden). This book contains the singing arias, with basso continuo accompaniment, taken from the great works of the composer, Superintendant de la Musique du Roi. In eff and, the thirteen lyrical tragedies, the two ballets (The Triumph of Love and The Temple of Peace) and the heroic pastoral Acis and Galatea, represent the lyrical works donated to the Royal Academy of Music between 1673 and 1686. Unlike Lully's lyrical works, which were printed at Ballard's, the singing arias were handwritten by copyists employed in the service of the bookseller fOucauLt, probably at the request of wealthy amateurs. In addition to the shape of the letters, the design of the keys and signs at the end of the musical phrase differs somewhat from one copy to another, with sometimes a few variations in the texts.
