PAGANINI Niccolo (1782-1840)
MANUSCRIT MUSICAL autograph signed " Niccolo Paganini ", Rondo, Valtz, etc. ; 2 oblong pages in folio of a double-sided sheet 21,5 x 29 cm (some slight marginal slits) ; hardback binding half brown basane, title piece on cover in gold lettering on red calf. Precious and rare sheet of sketches of compositions for guitar. The manuscript is written in brown ink on the two pages of a 10-line, fully completed, Italian-style folio of more than 200 measures. It includes the theme of a Rondo marked Alltto, and four other related themes and variations: "On the reverse, an important working sketch of a long piece for C guitar, with numerous retouches, corrections and erasures, including several bars crossed out, with a deleatur mark, probably after insertion in another composition, and an eleventh line of conclusion added at the bottom of the page. These sketches are representative of Paganini's working method and of his "studi giornalieri" which formed a collection of themes and motifs to be inserted in compositions when the occasion arose; thus for the themes on the first page. The larger sketch on the back could be the final part of a larger work for guitar; Paganini composed more than 150 pieces for guitar, many of which are still unpublished. In the head, ex-dono and authentifi cation by the composer's grandson Andrea Paganini offering this sheet to the Milanese luthier Leandro BISIACH (1864-1945): "Milano, 25 Aprile 1901. Questo autografo del mio illustre avo Nicolò Paganini off ro in ricordo di sincera amicizia all'esimio liutista caro Leandro Bisiach, al quale si onorano di fare omaggio i più eccelsi artisti viventi Andrea Paganini".
