PUCCINI Giacomo (1858-1924)
L.A.S. "Giacomo", Viareggio 28 December 1921, to Miss Rose ADER, in Hamburg; 4 pages petit in-4 to her address, envelope; in Italian. Beautiful love letter to the singer for whom he wrote the role of Liu in Turandot. [Rose ADER (1890-1955) made her debut in 1915 at the Stadttheater in Hamburg, where she made the German premiere of Suor Angelica in 1921; Puccini, who fell in love with her, thought of her when she wrote the role of Liu in his last opera Turandot]. He received the cigarettes, and mentions the possibility of a future shipment by the Brenner. He is humiliated that he didn't send anything to Rose for Christmas. She has been told that no valuable items or money can be sent; that she is trying to find out whether it is true that no jewellery or money can be sent to Germany. He has not yet decided whether he will go to Milan, but he will notify her by telegram. Have her write to him at Torre Del Lago, where he goes every other day. He received her dear little letter this morning, in which she tells him that she's going to Berlin to sing La Bohême in Italian with Piccaver. He is delighted to hear that she is doing better and eating well, so that she can regain her lost books. His sweet Rosa asks him if he loves her. Very, very much, but... he doesn't say the bad word that she doesn't want to hear... and this thing oppresses her because it's true. He thinks about her all the time and he wants her so much... that he wants to have her here with him and kill her with kisses.... " [...] Mi dici andrai a Berlino e che canterai Bohème in italiano con Piccaver. Stai bene adesso e mangi molto - sono tanto contento di questo - cosi avrai di nuovo le libbre perdute. Mia dolce Rosa mi demanda se ti amo. Tanto tanto ma... non dico la brutta parole che non vuoi sentire... - e questa cosa mi opprime perchè è vera. Io penso continuamente a te e ti desidero tanto - ricordi i due numeri? Oh dio potessi averti qu
