RAVEL Maurice (1875-1937)
L.A.S. "Maurice Ravel", Lapras January 14, 1920, to pianist Marguerite LONG de Marliave; 1 page in-12, address. When he was late to send his greetings, he gave a serious excuse: "I have gone back to work, in a relentless manner, as I once did. I have taken great means for this: I live as a hermit in the middle of the Cévennes. As before, not quite like before: the last time was in St Jean-de-Luz... No one better than you can understand my awful sadness "... He adds in postscript: " I know that you played the other day the Tombeau de Couperin ... as only you can play it ". [Ravel was composing La Valse at the time.] The complete works, n° 1167.
