VERDI Giuseppe (1813-1901)
L.A.S. "G. Verdi", Busseto 24 December 1857, to Dr. Ercolano BALESTRA, in Parma; 1 page in-8, address, small red wax stamp on his number; in Italian. He thanks him for the trouble he took for his coachman's coat ("tabarro del cocchiere"), but he fears he may have made a mistake through the fault of Pietro, Mori's brother. He says that this is a valet's coat ("da cameriere"), and that those of the coachmen have two collars and sleeves ("due bavari e le maniche"): It seems natural to have arms free to ride horses, but also that they should be covered ("per condura i cavalli d'aver le braccia libere e nello stesso tempo coperte")... If the tailor is willing to take this coat and make another one, with sleeves and double collar, exactly like the one he used to wear lately for the coachman of the Simonetta house, he asks the doctor to return the coat he just sent, new and never worn. If that's not possible, Mori will settle for this one. Let him not pay the ten Austrian pounds: the two brothers will arrange it between them...
