WAGNER RICHARD (1813-1883)
L.A.S. "Richard Wagner", Bayreuth 3 May 1874, to "Herren Philipp HAAS & Söhne in Wien"; 2 pages in-8; in German. Letter to the famous Viennese upholsterers, a few days after the Wagners moved into their new house "Wahnfried". He reminds them that in addition to the 50 metres of white atlas ("weissen Atlas"), long promised, they are still waiting for 10 metres of semi-silk fabric for furniture or curtains ("Halbseiden- Möbel- oder Gardinen Stoff"), in the colour of which they have received a sample. But now his wife has a special request: that they recommend what could be used for a light covering of the feet and body in general, when lying on the chaise longue, for example, for a nap ("was zu einer leichten Decke für die Fusse und überhaupt den Leib benützt werden könnte, sobald man sich z. B. zur Mittagsaube auf der Chaise-longue ausstreikt". The two sofa beds ("Schalfsofas") in question will be placed in the large hall (which also serves as a lounge), and are covered with reddish-brown plush. Until now they have used silk blankets, but they now find them unsuitable. So his wife wants to know if they have in their Persian shop, from where they have already received a carpet, something suitable, a shawl or something similar. They would need two of them, similar in style if not in pattern and colour. He counts on their kindness and recommends himself in this matter to the affection of his old friend Nader... Pencil annotation at the head of the letter for the answer.
