WOLF Hugo (1860-1903)
L.A.S. "Hugo Wolf", Bregenz 29 April 1891, to his friend Oskar GROHE; 4 pages in-8; in German. He reached Bregenz from Friedrichshafen after a beautiful boat trip on Lake Constance (Bodensee). He admires the snow-covered peaks of Tyrol and Switzerland. Before that, he was staying with friends in Tübingen, where an evening was held in his honour, and he describes how enthusiastic the public is about his Lieder [probably the Italianisches Liederbuch he was composing], and how he has won a real triumph. Everybody, men and women alike, were like madmen. Wolf was in the best mood, he sang and played as if he had the devil in his body. He went back to Vienna the next day...
