Berlioz will leave "in a few days for Baden and I will be able to go to Carlsruhe on 8 August to bring you the large score of the Requiem. The bad piano score you have will be able to use until then; it is the same one that has always been used in Paris, Berlin and Dresden for choir rehearsals. You probably made a mistake when you examined the Dies Irae and the Offertory: There is no soli, it is the choir that always sings". He would like us to organise a rehearsal in Carlsruhe on the 8th or some other day.

This was in preparation for Berlioz's great concert in Baden on 26 August, where three pieces from the Requiem (Dies iræ, Tuba mirum and Offertoire) were performed; the score for voice and piano was not published, so a manuscript score had been used since 1837. Friedrich KRUG (1812-1892), singer and composer, was court choirmaster at Carlsruhe, whose choristers, whom Berlioz had indeed had rehearsed in Carlsuhe, came to sing at the Baden concert
