DUTILLEUX Henri (1916-2013). - Lot 1124
DUTILLEUX Henri (1916-2013). MANUSCRIT MUSICAL autograph and L.S. d'envoi, Paris 22 July 1960, to Victor ALPERT of the Boston Symphony Orchestra; 1 page large in-fol. (43.5 x 27.5 cm), and 2 pages in-4 , envelope. Correction for his Second Symphony "Le Double". Large and beautiful musical page modifying a passage from his Symphony No. 2, comprising three bars of the orchestral score, written in black ink on 40 staves, with the indication "(3rd Movement)"; it shows blue and red pencil marks, indicating the place of the cut, with the mention "enchaînement", and an explanatory note: "Cut from the 10th bar of 19 to the 5th bar of 22. The sequence causes a slight change for the following instruments (of the Large Orchestra) [list of instruments] All other instruments make the cut without changing a single note. In his letter of transmittal to Victor Alpert, Dutilleux explains that he has already sent Charles MUNCH replacement pages for another revision of the work, but that he considers them superfluous with this second cut. He entrusts Alpert with the task of correcting each of the parts. He refers to a third cut which he discussed with Munch and which he has since found "very good ". A typed note in English summarizing the composer's modifications is attached (1 p. in-8, heading Berkshire Music Center, Tanglewood).
