MARTINŮ Bohuslav (1890-1959). MUSICAL MANUSCRIPT autograph signed "B. Martinů ", La Revue de cuisine, [ 1927] 53 pages in-fol. in 4 books. Ballet music in the jazz style. Composed in Prague and Paris in 1927, La Revue de cuisine [H.161...] is written for clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, violin, cello and piano, based on an argument by the choreographer Jarmila Kröschlová (pseudonym of the writer Jan Löwenbach), who created the ballet with her company in Prague in November 1927. This amusing fantasy stages, in a joyful and whimsical love story, characters such as the couple Pot and Lid being beaten up against the Cream Whip, the Dishcloth, and the Broom taking the role of referee of all these utensils. The original title was The Temptation of Saint Marmite, and Martinů dedicated it to its Prague landlady , Mrs. Bozena Nebeská. The instrumentation is marked by jazz influences: rich harmonies and dissonances of the piano, the use of the mouth-blown trumpet, pizzicati of the cello , as well as syncopated rhythms. Martinů produced a suite in 4 movements, given in Paris in January 1930, published immediately by the Alphonse Leduc editions (publisher's stamp at the bottom of the first page of each book). The manuscript is in 4 notebooks, each one signed at the head and corresponding to a movement of the suite; it is written in black ink on 20-line paper, with numerous corrections.
