MASSENET Jules (1842-1912). 66 L.A.S. ("J.... - Lot 1149 - Ader
MASSENET Jules (1842-1912). 66 L.A.S. ("J. Massenet", "Massenet", "J.M.", "M.", "Mijois" or initials), L.A. ou billets, [1878-1912], to HIS WIFE; 125 pages in various formats, some addresses and envelopes . He gives his wife news of their homes (notably Egreville), of his health, of their relatives and friends, and of some travels (Barcelona, Brussels, Tournai...). From Barcelona, he complains: "Rehearsals are slow and annoying - the musical feeling of this country is inflated - no courage at work too - you have to smoke your cigarette while rehearsing and it is not uncommon to see a musician stop... to roll tobacco! - We smoke in churches - backstage at the theatre! - You smoke in omnibuses, at the table d'hôte - everywhere. - What a country of smokers! "(18 April 1881)... On his return from Brussels for the creation of Hérodiade (press cuttings stuck to the letter), he was saddened by his wife's lack of support and his daughter's silence: "If you knew my life, you would find nothing to reproach me with, nothing that could displease you" (21 December 1881)... He shared some recipes..." (21 December 1881). Cavalieri hearing... amazing! What a voice! Here come Thais! "... In 1910, he advances in the instrumentation of Amadis, evokes representations of Werther and Manon... After the premiere of Don Quichotte in Monte-Carlo, he prepares copies and a reduction for piano... We also meet the names of Hartmann, Heugel, Carvalho, Boisdeffre, Paul Fauchey, Charles Normand... We join an L.A.S. to his son-in-law Léon Bessand (1910).
