MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY Felix (1809-1847). MANUSCRIT MUSICAL autograph signed, Ruhethal and Jagdlied, [1843]; 2 pages in-4 on the front and back of a 25 x 32,5 cm sheet (slit in the central fold and tear at the bottom repaired, one side a little yellowed, slight marginal traces of mounting). Viola parts of two of the Sechs Lieder im Freien zu singen op. 59 [MWF F 21-22]. The six Lieder im Freien zu singen (to be sung in the open air) of Op. 59 were composed for mixed a capella voices (soprano, alto, tenor and bass, unaccompanied) between 1837 and 1843. Dedicated to Henrietta Benecke, a relative of Félix Mendelssohn's wife, they were first published in 1844. The manuscript presents the part of the last two lieder of the collection, numbers 5 and 6, composed on March 3 and 5, 1843; it is written in brown ink on a 12-line paper, with song and words. Ruhethal (The Valley of Rest), on a poem by Ludwig UHLAND (1787-1862): "Wenn im letzten Abendstrahl, goldne Wolkenberge steigen"... It is in D major, 2/4, marked Adagio, and counts 35 bars. It is signed at the bottom of the page, with a consignment to Helen von Henschke . Jagdlied (Hunting Song), on a poem by Joseph von EICHENDORFF (1788-1857): "Durch schwankende Wipfel Schießt goldener Strahl"... It is in B minor, at 4/4, marked Allegro molto quasi Presto; it is written on two lines, the second stanza below the first, for the first 17 bars (the end is missing), with a passage crossed
