MESSIAEN Olivier (1908-1992). MUSICAL MANUSCRIPT autograph signed " Olivier Messiaen ", Les Corps glorieux. Sept brèves visions de la vie des ressuscités for organ , [1939]; title and 34 pages in-fol. Important cycle of seven pieces for organ. Messiaen wrote the seven organ pieces of Les Corps glorieux in the summer of 1939 in his house at Petichet (Isère); the work was completed on August 25. Then came the war and captivity. Released in March 1941, Messiaen sold the work to Leduc at the end of June, and in July worked on his organ in the church of La Trinité, fine-tuning it, adding fingerings, pedals and registrations; on July 22, he played it for his students at La Trinité. He gave two excerpts from it in an organ concert at the Palais de Chaillot on 28 December 1941. After the work was published by Alphonse Leduc in June 1942, Messiaen gave the first performance at La Trinité on November 15, 1943, then he played it again after the war on April 15, 1945 at the Palais de Cha illot. The work lasts 52 minutes. The manuscript is written in black ink on 20-line double pages, with scrapings and corrections in ink and pencil, notably concerning the registrations, and the addition of fingerings and pedal play; it bears the publisher's ink stamp at the bottom of the 1st page of each piece.
