VIERNE Louis (1870-1937). MANUSCRIT MUSICAL with corrections and autograph notes, Suite bourguignonne pour piano (1899); 33 pages in fol. in titled folder. Rare suite of piano pieces by the great organist. Written in 1899, Louis Vierne's Suite bourguignonne opus 17, a contemporary of the First Organ Symphony, "also bears witness to a happy period in the composer's life; country life is depicted in a series of seven picturesque tableaux: Aubade, in the very sunny tone of E major, opens the cycle. Then the ingenious melody of Idylle already announces the Andante from the Sonata for piano and violin (1905). Divertissement, with its light and fleeting virtuosity, evokes lively children's games. Two more nostalgic pieces follow: Légende bourguignonne, an old peasant lament set to a five-beat rhythm, and À l'Angélus du soir on an obstinate C sharp. After a very rhythmic Danse rustique, à la Chabrier, the cycle ends with the very poetic Clair de lune, which reflects the happy time of the composer's engagement" (Georges Delvallée). It was published in 1900 by Alphonse Leduc, with a dedication to Miss Juliette Toutain.
