Original edition, decorated with a portrait of the author engraved on copper by Lefèvre. Historical and philosophical essay on the ethics of government, by Étienne de Jouy (1764-1846), former officer who served in the East India Company and in the Northern Army, journalist, playwright, librettist and chansonnier, elected to the academic chair in 1815. Companion of the "Déjeuner de la Fourchette", a society of people of letters grouped around Jean-François Ducis, and a member of the Société du Caveau, he was responsible for some of the main 19th century operas such as Guillaume Tell by Rossini and La Vestale by Spontini. Copy of the figure of Marie-Louise, Duchess of Parma, former Empress of the French.
