MOLIERE
Molière's comments are based on the observations of our best critics; his eulogy by Chamfort, and unpublished remarks by Father Roger, a former Jesuit. Paris, Migneret, 1813. 2 volumes in-12, red morocco, gilt lace, coat of arms in the center, smooth decorated spine, inside roulette wheel, gilt edges (Binding at the time). Original edition, decorated with a portrait of Molière engraved on copper by Migneret after Desenne . Fresh morocco binding with the arms of Régnault de Saint-Jean-d'Angely (1762- 1819), count of Empire and secretary of state of the imperial family. Close to Napoleon, whom he had known in the Italian army, this superior and skillful spirit fulfilled many delicate missions for the Emperor. After chairing the section of the Interior at the Council of State in 1802, he became Secretary of State of the Imperial Family in 1807 and commander of a legion of the Imperial Guard in 1814. He followed Marie-Louise to Blois and was exiled by Louis XVIII for having been Minister of State during the Hundred Days (cf. Anne Lamort, Reliures impériales, Bibliothèque napoléonienne de Gérard Souham, p. 144). Some freckles. Provenance: library of Duchess Rose de Camastra, née Ney d'Elchingen, granddaughter of the Marshal; Henri Lambert.
