Dentu, 1810. 3 volumes in-8, long-grained red morocco, framed net and roulette, coat of arms in the centre, smooth spine decorated with small star-shaped irons, gilt coat of arms and nets, roulette inside and on the cups, blue tabis lining and guards, gilt edges, modern slipcase (contemporary binding). Redouté, representing arteries, clavicles, skull, tumours and aneurysms, myologies and anatomy of the heart, etc. Philippe Joseph Pelletan (1747-1829), a former student of Tenon, taught operative medicine and obstetrics. After having directed during the Revolution the surgical service of one of the armies of the Republic, he succeeded Desault as chief surgeon of the HôtelDieu. He then became consultant surgeon to the Emperor and his family. He was considered the most remarkable teacher of our modern school (Dezeimeris); [...] following in the footsteps of Kesler and Guattani, [Pelletan] was the first in France to perform aneurysm surgery, and to him belong the first attempts to ligate the axillary artery (Bayle and Thillaye, Biographie médicale, t. II, p. 933). Superb binding with Napoleon's coat of arms of the most important work of his personal surgeon. Spine a little past.
