This speech was delivered on December 4, 1930. Barthou, as director of the Academy, gives the traditional report on the prizes of virtue awarded by the Academy in 1930, pointing out deserving individuals and paying tribute to several charities, to conclude: "The feeling of Good is not the least widespread thing in France. The Dedication knows no unemployment there. Virtue is not a sterile word. Whether it looks at itself or compares itself, such a country has nothing to fear from its destiny. ». The manuscript, in blue ink on blue paper, has many erasures, corrections and additions. It is dedicated at the top: "To the "Loriotte", who could play on the Tree of Good an air of Virtue, his affectionately devoted friend Louis Barthou December 9, 1930 ". It is probably Mrs. Lorette Guilliotte, quoted in the report, aged 82: "Remained a widow since 1913, after an existence that was never happy, she had to assume the heaviest burdens, a daughter, a granddaughter and a grandson, all of precarious health, and four great-grandchildren, the eldest of whom was seven years old. To meet the needs of these lives, of which she is almost the sole support, Ms. Guilliotte cares for infants and children between the ages of three and eleven. She has raised no fewer than a hundred of them. Having herself given birth to two boys and six girls, her maternal experience and care have inspired confidence, esteem and gratitude all around her... 3 L.A.S. to Joseph Bédier, 1920-1922.
