CAMBRONNE Pierre (1770-1842) general. L.A.S.... - Lot 656 - Drouot Estimations
CAMBRONNE Pierre (1770-1842) general. L.A.S. "Le Baron Cambronne", [Nantes 20 May 1818], at Major LABORDE in Paris, 1 page and a half in-4, address (slot repaired on address f.). To a comrade in arms. [Major Étienne LABORDE had fought alongside Cambronne during the French Campaign.] Cambronne rejoiced in the paternity of his correspondent, but despaired of being employed: "I am still in demand for some kind of treatment; so far I have not succeeded. If I accepted service, I would be too happy to take you at your word to see us together again"; but "I would have to be more advanced than I am to have any hope of being together; you know that I do not want another rank than the one I have known"... He instructs him to see his cousin in Paris, who takes care of his affairs and assures him of his "eternal friendship"... A P.S. is attached, Army of the Danube, at the camp in front of Mellingen 16 messidor VII (July 4, 1799), certificate for Jean Goursac, signed by Cambronne and many officers.
