"I am leaving tomorrow for Paris, with the sorrow of not being able to say goodbye to you, and of not being able to ask your forgiveness for my negligence by my own mouth. You must be a good child if you don't mind my being so lazy in writing to you, But I believe that you are too clever a man not to have told of many faults to be tolerated, that you do me the honour of giving me your friendship, and that is the reason why my faults find so much leniency with you, if I am a philosopher in friendship, I beg you to be a little wicked, for your kindness galls me; but the way to beg you to be angry with Moy who has you so much indeed, and who honours you more than anyone else in the world"...
