"Citizens! In all the great acts in the life of a people the government has the duty to make its voice heard by the Nation. You are going to perform the greatest act in the life of a people: elect the representatives of the country; bring out from your consciences and from your sufrages not only a government, but a social power, but a whole constitution! You are going to create the Republic! "Lamartine praises the joint action of the Provisional Government and the people, and the aspiration to accomplish "the greatest work of modern times! the foundation of the government of the entire People, the organization of democracy! The Republic of all rights, of all intelligences, of all virtues! ...] the Republic will be strong and great as the nation, holy as the idea of the people, imperishable as the Fatherland!
