[marie-Antoinette]. MANUSCRIT MUSICAL, Recueil de chansons, late 18th century; small oblong in-4 of 96 pages including 51 with music notated, bound in garnet morocco, spine ribbed and floral spine with title, triple gilt fillet framing the plates, gilt coat of arms affixed posteriorly in the center of the top plate, threaded cups, gilt inner wheel, gilt edges (slightly stained plates, slightly used caps and corners). Airs, songs and vaudevilles : Lyrics and music of 40 melodies for voices, almost always with accompaniment, bringing together slightly cheerful popular arias such as Le curé de Pomponne, pastorales and tender songs, but also excerpts from Jean Jacques Rousseau's opera Le Devin du village ("Let's dance under the abalones", "L'Art à l'amour est favorable"...), and poetry set to music by Gentil-Bernard ("Ode to the Rose"), Father Guillaume Amfrye de Chaulieu ("Far from the Ordinary Road"), JeanPierre Claris de Florian ("This Morning in a Heather") excerpt from the pastoral novel Estelle and Némorin), Henriette de Coligny comtesse de La Suze ("Let the night last" ...), Jean-François Marmontel ("They say that love watches over me" ...). The writer sometimes indicated the name of a composer, such as the Italian Francesco Saverio Geminiani (1687-1762). A few leaves that remained blank were used late for signature tests or feathers. Royal arms of MARIE-ANTOINETTE (gilded iron close to the n°3 and 10 listed in OHR) struck subsequently.
