SAINT-EXUPÉRY (Antoine de)
Signed autograph letter. [S. l. n. d.; postmark: Paris, April 5, 1927...]. 2 p. on a double f. in-8 (19 x 15 cm) wove paper, envelope with autograph inscription, black ink. Beautiful letter, apparently unpublished, to Lucie-Marie Decour. He apologizes to her for not having come to dinner with her friend and not having been able to call to warn her, and tells her of his moody mood: "When I came back to Paris this spring that he was doing gave me an unbearable cockroach. I thought I would be a silent companion and I didn't dare to come. But if I'd known we were going to have dinner near the Seine... I had my soul all ready for the guinguettes, moonlight in the water and uncomplicated romances. [...] I'm sometimes an idiot". Saint Exupéry shared Lucie-Marie Decour's close friendship with Henry de Ségogne, in particular. He exchanged letters with her, some of them published, which "even in their sentimental uncertainty, are worthy by their picturesque precision and the delicacy of their banter" (OEuvres complètes, II, Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, 2009, p. 1445). PROVENANCE: Lucie-Marie Decour, then her descendants. Christie's sale, Paris, 29 April 2013, No. 139. Folds, a few stains, pale ink, envelope preserved with small defects.
