SAINT-EXUPÉRY (Antoine de) Autograph manuscript of an essay On television. [United States, circa 1940?]. 10 p. on 6 ff. in-4 (27.9 x 21.6 cm) of American "Gilbert" wove paper Dispatch Bond, black and blue ink, autograph partial foliotation (a and b) and later partial foliotation in black ink (0548 and 0549). Interesting draft of an unpublished essay by Saint-Exupéry who had filed patents on electromagnetic waves. The essay not only theorises the television licence fee, but also provides technical means to limit emissions against viewers who would not have paid it. Autograph manuscript extensively cross-ruled and corrected and provided with technical sketches. At the top of the first page is drawn a small character resembling the Little Prince (5.5 x 5 cm). "The problem of commercial television, which is in fact the problem of financing programmes, would be entirely solved if [...] each user paid a fee for each show he or she received, proportional to the length and quality of the show, without any fraud [...] being possible. [...]. (chap. XIX). Highly scratched text, with hatched paragraphs and long additions in the margins. The ff. are structured in chapters numbered I to IX.
