SAINT-EXUPÉRY (Antoine de)
Manuscript of the scientific text Le vent et sa mesure. [Brest, 1929]. 17 p. in-4 and large in-4 (various sizes) of fine paper, including 5 on letterhead of the Hôtel continental de Brest and 7 on letterhead of the Grand Café de Brest, brown ink, autograph foliotation (I-XVII). Important scientific manuscript, illustrated with numerous sketches and geometric figures (including 1 on the back of a leaf). Saint-Exupéry gives an in-depth study of the wind, its measurement and its involvement in the piloting of an aircraft. In 1929, the Latécoère company (later to become Aéropostale) sent Saint Exupéry to Brest to follow the Navy's advanced course in air navigation, given by the young lieutenant Lionel-Max Chassin. The latter remembers that his pupil "quickly showed himself to be dazed and brightly intelligent. As much on the theoretical level he was sometimes brilliant, as much in the practical exercises that we carried out every day he was clumsy, clumsy and, to tell the truth, bad". Perhaps Saint-Exupéry was then too preoccupied with correcting the proofs of Courrier Sud to be able to study and pass them... PROVENANCE: Sale Paris, Artcurial, 15 June 2010, lot 261.
