ÉLISABETH DE ROUMANIE (1894-1956) REINE DES HELLÈNES About 100 letters or pieces, most of them autographed or signed "Mamie" or "Elizabeth", Cannes 1949- 1956; in French, English or Romanian; in ink or pencil. More than 40 letters, including a few drafts, to her lover and then adopted son Marc FAVRAT ("Marquis de Favrat Duc du Banat Prince de Hohenzollern and so on", "Marcule"...), "Mamie's" "child" and "beloved son" in the last years of her life: the exiled queen expresses her loneliness, her sorrow and her tenderness, alluding in passing to a few relationships and social engagements (Juliana, Barry, Eric...). "Seeing you, hearing you, having you near me again, it was like a blood transfusion" (13 March 1955)... Drafts and manuscripts, in verse or prose: Melancholia, A Woman's Song of Love, Lament of an Evergreen Tree, etc., leaves torn from a schoolboy's notebook ("Is it an earlier language that we speak among ourselves? A silent language..."), illustrated cleanup of personal reflections ("Empire over oneself? Isn't that a virtue and a wrong at the same time?"), etc. Drafts of letters to the Viscountess of Vergnette, Mrs. Franassovici, and to her beloved Florence, and of condolences to Mary de Teck on the death of her son George VI... Supplications to William Knowland (leader of the opposition in the United States Senate), to Queen Elizabeth of the Belgians, and to Prince George of Greece, entrusted to Favrat, the head of his household... Acknowledgement of debt to Marie de Poe... Passport, refugee certificate, residence permit for privileged residents, photo, press clippings, invitation cards, typed "political will"... Some documents concerning the widow of General Joseph Cazals are attached, including one signed by the Duke of Feltre.
