MOZART WOLFGANG-AMADEUS (1756-1791)
musical manuscript, Davidde penitente, cantata, [late 18th century]; 108 oblong leaves in-4 (22 x 31 cm), hardback with title label on upper board. (spine missing, boards a little worn). Rare contemporary copy of the orchestral score of this oratorio by Mozart. The cantata or oratorio Davidde penitente K.469, in which Mozart reused some of the music of his Solemn Mass in C minor K.427/417a, was first performed in Vienna on 13 March 1785. No complete autograph manuscript exists. This rare copy, close to the one in the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Vienna, is all the more precious as the work was not published until 1882. This copy of the orchestral score is complete with all ten numbers of the work. This copy is written in a fine hand in brown ink on 12-line paper. It bears on the title page the ink stamp Ex libris SPIRO, the Swiss musicologist Friedrich SPIRO (1863-1940).
