ARAGON Louis (1897-1982)
Automatic writings, set of nine autograph poems ( July 1919 - Summer 1920). 12 pages in-4 in ink pasted on sheets of anthracite laid paper of larger format mounted on tabs, half maroon morocco framing on both boards on printed paper, piece of gilt draw on the first board, smooth spine drawn gold, case (Alix).
Autograph note by Aragon on the first page "Écritures automatiques, textes surréalistes inédits, sur une vingtaine ayant survived les années, aux déménagements, aux perquisitions, aux corbeilles à papier ( juillet 1919 - été 1920)" ...
The poems are titled: the Teacher, the Smell of no herbarium, Here palace of delights, The city sitting in the cobblestones, The sterilized pin, At the café du commerce, A dance lesson, An exact notion of voluptuousness, The stars with a thousand whites.
These texts were published in 1970 following the Perpetual Movement (Coll.
Poésie/Gallimard). The manuscripts bear Aragon's notes for the preparation of the edition, "to be added between page 141 and the table currently on p. 155"; they indicate the places and dates of writing, according to his precise memories, as for L'institutrice written at the "café de la Source, boulevard
Saint Germain", or more vaguely, for Les Étoiles à mille branches, written "somewhere in the summer of 1920". Only the text Au Café du Commerce, written in "Commercy, 1919", was used as a framework for the last chapter of his novel Anicet (1921).
