BELLMER Hans (1902-1975)
Das Kugelgelenk (the ball joint). Notes on the subject of the ball joint. Two autograph manuscripts and original drawings of the preface to the "Doll's Games". Manuscripts in German (23 pages) and French (22 pages), 6 original drawings. 1949. 45 pages-8. (1) Das Kugelgelenk : In sheets. Pink laid paper with pencil lines. Autograph manuscript: 23 pages in-8 (210 x 145mm), in black and green inks. A few rare autograph corrections, two of which are on fragments of pasted paper. ORIGINAL DRAWINGS: 6 original drawings, in ink or pencil, 5 of which will appear in the printed edition. The drawing, unpublished, does not present a geometrical fi gure like the other 5, but a female character. The project was first formalized by Bellmer in German. The text, which he later translated, appeared under the title Notes au sujet de la jointure à boule, as a foreword to his collaboration with Paul Éluard on Les Jeux de la Poupée, published in 1949 by Éditions Premières. (2) Notes au sujet de la jointure à boule: Autograph manuscript signed, 22 pages in-8 (210 x 145mm), in blue ink. Sewn leaves. Pink peeling paper. Twelve handwritten corrections in black ink. This text is Hans Bellmer's own translation of his text Das Kugelgelenk. Bellmer entitled it Notes on the subject of the ball joint and placed it in the foreword to the Doll Games. The translation has been revised and corrected in black ink by Georges Hugnet. The corrections correspond to modifications, additions or proposals made to Bellmer's translation. All these corrections appear in the edition printed in 1949. This autograph set is, to date, the only existing one concerning the text of Hans Bellmer's major work.
