BOFA Gus (1883-1968).
2 L.A.S., [ca. 1935, to Lucienne FAVRE]; 2 and 3 pages in-4 in grease pencil (small tear at the top of the 1st letter). Beautiful letters to the novelist Lucienne FAVRE (1894-1958), bard of the working-class districts of pre-war Algiers. Thursday evening. "I still have no news from the newspaper [Marianne]. He thinks he will stay in Seine-et-Marne for a few more weeks: "I find a great well-being there: that of not thinking - at least of thinking outside myself - objectively, as the cutists say. It is a real rest"... He also tires of "agricultural and domestic work, and economic sports - I read little and work even less. I have managed to find a great nervous balance. [...] I think it was the wisest course to take, and the only reasonable goal to pursue in the historical but rather absurd times in which we live. To try to foresee the future, to play with imponderables and to take advantage of this absurdity requires either a great deal of candor, or a natural dishonesty which I lack"...
