MAGRITTE RENÉ (1898-1967).
L.A.S. "Mag-" with 2 DRAWINGS, [1952, to Marcel MARIËN ?]; 2 pages in-8 in blue pen. He is waiting for his friend's contribution for his magazine la Carte d'après nature: "The n° 1 as usual for our publications has met with a success that we cannot evaluate. [...] No. 2 is still to be done, the material I have at present is not sufficient. But there is another publication in progress, with Colinet and his friends Picqueray etc." He himself has written a text on Armand PERMANTIER, about whom he is going to publish a brochure. He approves of Mariën's decision to "put an end to repeated trips"; he will thus be able to "add your goodwill in person to ours during the meetings which are part of our customs". Then he draws "two ideas which served to make two recent paintings", that is to say two blue pen drawings (about 8 x 6.5 cm each): the first represents a frontal head entirely composed of figures; the second, a door with a very tortured drawing, a sketch of the painting Le Modèle vivant (see n° 791 of the Catalogue raisonné). Finally, he refers to a manifesto [concerning the Lettrist International, whose founders (Guy Debord, Gil Wolman, Jean-Louis Brau and Serge Berna) Magritte had just received in a break with the Lettrists and their leader Isidore Isou] that he published (the tract Finir les pieds plats) in La Carte d'après nature (29 October 1952): "But I think that boring problems would be raised that would be too tiring for me. I learned that ISOU had disassociated itself from this statement, which confirms the idea that I could have had with the little information I had available to me"...
