MANET ÉDOUARD (1832-1883).
L.A.S. "E. Manet", [late 1879 ?], to Claude MONET; 2 1/2 pages in-8 (foxing). A moving letter to Monet who has just lost his wife Camille. He has also just gone through terrible emotions, and his wife is still lying motionless: "she is however now out of danger and you know better than anyone what it is to be obliged to give incessant care to a sick person - I do not go out and see anyone and cannot take care of you as I would like. I have taken three studies of you from the studio and have already tried to sell them. I had even asked Miss Lemonnier to talk to Charpentier but it did not succeed. Get back to work if you can - it is the only distraction that your great sorrow can allow you: poor Madame Monet will not have been able to see the great success that certainly awaits you one day. Her brother may be able to get Jean (Monet's son) into "some college in the city"...
