MONET CLAUDE (1840-1926). 2 L.A.S. "Claude Monet", [Paris May 1888], to Stéphane MALLARMÉ; 1 page in-8 and envelope (small crack in fold repaired), and 1 page in-12 with address on reverse (telegram). Mallarmé's meeting with Whistler. [Monet was well acquainted with WHISTLER, with whom he participated in several exhibitions, notably in 1887, and with whom he spent a few days in London in May 1888. Mallarmé met Whistler through Monet in early 1888, and a lasting friendship was then formed between them]. Sunday morning. "My dear Mallarmé I am here with Whistler, who is passing through Paris and who would be very happy to make more acquaintance with you. If it is possible, would you like to come and have breakfast with us this morning [...] café de la Paix"... He gives his address "111 rue St Lazare". Sunday [May 26]. "My dear friend What a disappointment for me yesterday not to be able to join you and Whistler. Arrived this morning Whistler tells me that I will please you by coming to dine with him this evening, but am I not being indiscreet"... He gives his address "111 rue St Lazare Hôtel Garnier"...
