SIGNAC PAUL (1863-1935).
L.A.S. "Paul Signac", Sunday morning [August 1919 ?]; 1 1/2 pages in-4 (small marginal stain). Concerns about the first exhibition of the Indépendants after the First World War. "Mr. Cariol is "a little worried" as they say in the Midi" (in Paris of a longer and more energetic adjective, one would characterize him even better). We will not answer him. And it is only out of sympathy for you that I am addressing these lines to you. But reassure our Members: on Tuesday before the General Assembly - its sole judge - the Committee will explain all its actions, all its decisions and will assume full responsibility for them"... And he returns to the arguments of his adversary, in particular a letter that he forgot to sign, "in my fury at receiving three days in a row his insulting missives"; as for the Grand-Palais, it is "taken up from February to August, by the Agricultural Show, the Horse Show, the Salons! Why should we be so foolish as to refuse it at a favorable time! [...] I assure you that reason and independence are not on the side of your correspondents"...
