TOULOUSE-LAUTREC HENRI DE (1864-1901).
2 L.A.S. "yours Henri", [Taussat (Gironde) August 1892], to HER MOTHER, Countess Adèle de TOULOUSE-LAUTREC; 3 pages (purple ink) and 4 pages in-8. About her holiday in Gironde, and her aunt and cousins Pascal. "My dear Mother, Your letter has not taught me anything new, but I think you are exaggerating in believing that you must not come to the country. - I think you must come to Malromé even if it means meeting with Bourges, and see how we can direct my aunt's situation, at the critical moment. Writing would be useless, everything has been said over and over again. Try to get past the leagues of delirious miners, and come to the Gironde. I am taking advantage of the fine weather to soak constantly in the basin. My dear Mother, I have little news to tell you since yesterday, and I am simply supporting the letter from Bourges which informs you of Louis' sad situation, with figures to back it up. We must get him out of this, absolutely, if we do not want him to sink permanently, and all that has been done so far to be lost. - He is doing his best to live on the little money he has; but it is materially impossible for him to liquidate his arrears unless you and my uncle (to whom Gabriel writes on his side) get him out of it. So send your share of two hundred francs, and we will not ask you for anything more for him until December. You will only have to take care of my aunt"... Correspondence (ed. Herbert Schimmel, 1992), nos. 241-242, pp. 201-202.
