TOULOUSE-LAUTREC HENRI DE (1864-1901).
L.A.S. "yours Henri", [Paris end of April 1893], to HER MOTHER, Countess Adèle de TOULOUSE-LAUTREC; 4 pages in-8. "My dear Mother, For once the newspapers have pretty much told the truth. The exanthematic typhus that we have is a disease that can only attack people who are poorly fed and locked up in prisons or colleges. We happier people are safe from this very limited epidemic. I am always lazy and wait for inspiration. I walk in the woods every day and take in as much oxygen as I can. I almost took the train and went to spend a week in Taussat but I was afraid I would not be able to come back. I will be happy to look for a decoration for the Rochegude Museum [Hotel de Rochegude, in Albi] and it would be funny to appear as a painter where I appeared bare-legged as a young Levite. So calm down, don't be afraid of anything, and say hello to those around you... Correspondence (ed. Herbert Schimmel, 1992), no. 292, p. 226.
