TOULOUSE-LAUTREC HENRI DE (1864-1901).
L.A.S. "yours H.", [Taussat] Saturday [August-September 1893], to HER MOTHER, the Countess Adèle de TOULOUSE-LAUTREC; 4 pages in-8 in purple ink. Holiday at Taussat in the Gironde. [Toulouse-Lautrec had gone with his friends Henri Bourges, Louis Fabre, Paul Viaud, and Maurice Guibert, by train to Cazaux, then by boat to Mimizan]. "My dear Mother, Here I am back in Taussat, having had a magnificent and eventful journey. The last day was hard, the men had to pass the boat over real rapids, over rocks. We made the whole trip from Cazaux to Mimizan with our own resources, camping and cooking ourselves, the laziest ones slept at the hotel (?), but paid for this relative comfort with bugs and other babaous. I divided my pleasures. Bourges was with us. We had a remarkable heat but with two or three baths a day we could bear it. I shall return there in a fortnight with cormorants. I shall come to Malromé on Tuesday or Wednesday, perhaps Thursday. I kiss you"... Correspondence (ed. Herbert Schimmel, 1992), no 305, p. 231.
