TOULOUSE-LAUTREC Adèle Tapié de Céleyran, comtesse de (1841-1930) mère du peintre.
L.A.S. "Adèle", Paris 7 May 1882, to her mother Louise TAPIÉ DE CÉLEYRAN (née d'Imbert Du Bosc); 4 pages in-8. On her son Henri's debut in Léon Bonnat's studio. After settling money matters, she comes to Henri, recommending his mother to pray for him in Lourdes. "Studio life, excellent from the point of view of art, is a great trial for a young man and I thank you for praying for him every day. He struggles bravely with the troubles of the early days, and Bonnat does not spare him the corrections; it seems to show a real interest in the pupil, and he simply throws a flattering word to those from whom he expects nothing. Henry has made friends with a young man from Toulouse, a former favourite pupil of Bonnat, who is a very good artist. Princeteau has been keeping the room for a fortnight with rheumatism and we are trying to distract him a little, in recognition of his complaisance for H."... Attached is a L.A.S. "Alph." from Alphonse de TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (1838- 1912, father of Henri), Rivaulde on Thursday, to his mother (3 pages in-8): "Henry spent his Easter holidays in a meeting with all of us; he told me that he was exhibiting a portrait of his mother and that of a friend in Toulouse"...
