HEREDIA José-Maria de (1842-1905). - Lot 82
HEREDIA José-Maria de (1842-1905). Autograph POEM signed "JM. de Heredia", to F.M.R., Royat 30 August 1884; 2 pages in-8 (small disinfecting cracks, trace of tab on back). Amusing poem for Robert de Montesquiou. This epistle in verse, comprising six quatrains, is dedicated "to F.M.R." (inverted initials of Robert de Montesquiou-Fezensac); it humorously denounces the picking of fake cotton edelweiss, real tourist catchers made "for the fake buttonhole" of Paul Bourget or J.J. Weiss. The manuscript, in black ink, shows small disinfection cracks, due to the cholera epidemic that raged in the south of France during the summer and autumn of 1884. "The Edelweiss, Swiss snow flower That you pick in Saint-Moriz Is not a flower of which one can Make bouquets in Chloris" .... Attached is a L.A.S., Le Croisic September 12, 1892, sending a membership (1 p. in-12).
