QUENEAU Raymond. - Lot 196
QUENEAU Raymond. MANUSCRIT autograph "Raymond Queneau", [Georges Clairefond, circa 1966]; 1 page and a half in-8 in blue ballpoint pen on nrf letterhead, with numerous erasures and corrections. Tribute to the Nîmes painter and poet Georges CLAIREFOND (1920-1973). "One can never describe a true poet as local and the more he asserts himself as a poet, the more universal he becomes. We would therefore not call Georges Clairefond a southern poet, or even a Mediterranean one - although even when warned about the identity of the author of Angoisse des rivières endiguées, the reader can easily find himself in the Languedoc as well as on the banks of the Arno or the Aegean Sea. But this is the base, the summit, where the poet tries to extinguish his anguish in the great themes of serenity acquired beyond love, life and death. This is said with a rare simplicity, with a stripped but sensitive lyrical texture, with a distant echo of the rhythms of the past. The image is natural and sure. (...) There is an abundance of motives and causes in this clear fabric of words that are always right, necessary and sufficient. The poet, starting from Nîmes, goes very far, elsewhere, beyond". Two typescripts of this text are attached; plus a L.A.S. from Georges CLAIREFOND, 24 October 1966, happy to have known Raymond Queneau and his son Jean-Marie.
