QUENEAU Raymond. - Lot 198
QUENEAU Raymond. 2 autograph MANUSCRITS, one signed "Raymond Queneau", [Gala Barbisan, 1967]; 4 and 1 pages in-4 (27 x 21 cm) in black ink and blue ballpoint pen. Draft and editing of his contribution to the Gala Barbisan catalogue published by Minuit Editions on the occasion of the first exhibition in Paris of Gala BARBISAN (1904-1982) at the Pierre Domec Gallery in November 1967. Evoking the great exhibition organized by Jean Dubuffet's Compagnie de l'Art Brut at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs before the summer of 1967, Que - neau is pleased that this exhibition made it possible to clear the way and "to reduce to their level the so-called Sunday painters, the naïfs and other profiteers of modern art, whose perfect nullity and their very distant relationship with the customs officer Rousseau, who was neither naïf nor Sunday, were made clear. But questioning the different points that would allow Gala Barbisan's work to be linked to Art Brut, he concludes that "definitely not, it is not Art Brut. [...] But what is Art Brut? Did Dubuffet himself succeed in defining it? To any conceptual definition, other achievements always escape. Gala Barbisan escapes any contemporary movement as well as Art Brut. A strange work, quite mediumistic and where the psychologist - chanalyse would not find her children. On the craft side: Gala Barbisan does not spare any effort. We like to joke with the candid amateurs who admire the acrobatics of "doing" the painting with a brush, etc. Point so pleasant admiration. Gala Barbisan, with infinite patience, chisels her paper into a meticulous genesis, constantly renewed and refracted to infinity, the proliferation of a bewitching and magical world. The corrected typescript is attached; and the catalogue Gala Barbisan chez Pierre Domec, illustrated with 23 black and white reproductions preceded by 9 texts, including one by Queneau, but also those of Claude Mauriac and Alain Robbe-Grillet.
