QUENEAU Raymond. - Lot 199
QUENEAU Raymond. Autograph manuscript, [André Salmon, 1967 ?]; 1 page in-4 (27 x 21 cm), typescript attached. Text introducing the poet André SALMON (1881-1969), whose collections of poems Créances and Carreaux were republished by Gallimard in 1908. His "true place is still unknown," yet "with Apollinaire, Max Jacob and Cendrars, he founded modern poetry. Queneau cites several of his works, including Le Calumet of 1910, in which "familiar or slang words burst forth in the last enchantments of symbolism like the shells of 1914 in the sky of the belle époque," and L'Âge de l'huma - nité, in which "the poet wonders about this new world that is trying to come into being after the collapse of 1914-18. It is a poem that has lost none of its "novelty". Then surrealism will be born, reaping the field sown by the great precursors, among whom the reader of Créances and Carreaux will understand that we must place André Salmon." Enclosed is a L.S. from André SALMON addressed to Raymond Queneau, accompanied by a letter to the publisher Gallimard, September 8 and 9, 1953 (2 p. in-4). Salmon wishes to inform Queneau and Paulhan of his letter to the director of the Gallimard publishing house, to whom he asks for an account of the reprinting of some of his works; he also wishes to have his complete poetic works reprinted, and wants to know if two volumes of Souvenirs can be received.
