INDY Vincent d' (1851 - 1931) L.A.S. "Vincent d'Indy", Vernoux (Ardèche) September 11, 1888; 4 pages in-8. In favor of the Société Nationale de Musique. He begs his correspondent, favorable to "all truly artistic attempts", to come to the aid of the Société Nationale: "Our poor Société Nationale is under attack, it has many enemies [...] Its past is the guarantee of its future, and we would like now, while highlighting the modern French works worthy of being known, to manage to reconstitute some unknown or rarely performed ancient works, as we have already done for the Christmas Oratorio, translated for us by M. Bouchor and performed with the orchestra of the French National Orchestra. Bouchor and performed with BACH's full orchestra; for RAMEAU's Dardanus, of which we have sung an important fragment with a small orchestra, and for GLUCK's Iphigénie en Tauride, of which we performed the entire first act last year without changing or cutting a note. All this without prejudice to the first French auditions, such as FRANCK's quintet, FAURÉ's two quartets, and so many other works of chamber or orchestral music that have been performed in our unfortunately too intimate sessions, because our resources are modest and we do not want to go into debt. He asks for an annual allowance or subsidy...
