About Friedrich Wilhelm RUST (1739-1796), whom V. d'Indy presented as a precursor of Beethoven. "Der Fall Rust is making a huge noise in Paris at the moment, as I was the first to make the old Friedrich-Wilhelm known in our country, I have here einige gute Feinde, who overwhelm me with their sarcasm and speak of musical mystification. I still believe that our old Rust was a very interesting and talented artist, and that the Bearbeitungen of his grandfather cannot prevent him from having made beautiful music. He would like to go and examine "closely the autographs of the famous sonatas, in order to try to confound our French musicographers, who, moreover, know very little about music. He asks if these manuscripts are in Bonn or in Berlin...
