LALO Édouard (1823 - 1892) L.A.S., Paris, October 12, 1888, to Joseph DUPONT; 3 pages in-8. On the casting of Le Roi d'Ys at La Monnaie in Brussels [the opera will be performed there on February 7, 1889 under the direction of Joseph Dupont (1838-1899)] He sends Dupont his Symphony, hoping that he will be able to perform it at one of his Concerts populaires. He thinks that Mlle Landouzy and Mauras will make an "excellent Rozenn" and an "excellent Mylio", but expresses reservations about other singers for the roles of Margared, Karnac and the King. He insists "on the necessity to have for the roles of Margared and Karnac two good singers who are at the same time excellent tragedians; do not forget that these are two roles which carry all the weight of the drama and that, for me, they are the best part of my opera"; this is why he wanted Rose Caron who would have "recused herself because the role of Margared is not sympathetic; strange way of judging a score"... He will be busy "replacing the organ by a small orchestra of woodwinds and horns in the wings" for the scene of St Corentin...
