LISZT Franz (1811 - 1886) - Lot 108
LISZT Franz (1811 - 1886) L.A.S., Venezia 9 January 1883, to Giulio RICORDI in Milan; 3 1/2 pages in-8, envelope; in French. On his transcriptions of Verdi. "For the past 20 days I have done nothing but blacken music paper, excluding letter paper. Enclosed is my signature relative to your ownership of the Reminiscences of Boccanegra . By the same post the corrected proofs of this piece reach you. Please send me here at once the Salve Maria of VERDI, which I have transcribed, because I will make some slight changes. For the other transcriptions in the Verdi volume, it will be enough for me to review the final proofs in Budapest, where I will be next Monday. As I said to your brother, the armoni-piano has a charming tremolo effect: something that the orchestra does not offer, and complements the aeolian harps. Except for abuse, the use of this eff ect is in order; and only yesterday I indicated it in a new piece of my own, which will be published in Leipzig before Easter. Perhaps the same aeolian tremolo effect would fit well with the Salve Maria, and with Verdi's Agnus Dei? [...] Thank you for your excellent Panetone from Milan, received at Christmas. I hope that my transcriptions will be as successful as the one my three little girls gave to the Panetone.
