MARTINU BOHUSLAV (1890-1959) - Lot 115
MARTINU BOHUSLAV (1890-1959) L.S. "B. Martinu" with an autograph line, New York April 7, 1946, to Marcel MIHALOVICI; 1 page in-4. The season in New York still occupies him. They prepare their departure for Paris and then Czechoslovakia. Charles MUNCH goes to Prague to conduct his 1st Symphony. He is worried about the situation in Europe. "Everything is in suspense and we are very upset to look for the best solution". He always thinks with nostalgia about pre-war Paris and its bookshops. He has sent Rosenthal the score of his Concerto for two pianos, and hopes that it will be played by Monique [Haas, Martinu's wife] and Ina Marika "I have resumed my work, another Symphony, the fifth, and I will also write something for P. SACHER. I had a great success in Prague with the Second [Symphony] and the Lidice, and I would like to hear the First with Charles [...] Have you met Nadia BOULANGER? [...] Everybody is starting to leave slowly": Casadesus, Francescati, Marcelle de Manziarly, "even Dushkin goes to Paris"... There was a conference on Camus which made a great impression, Antigone was given. He still talks about Tibor HARSANYI and his Christmas Cantata. He regrets not being in Paris with the Mihalovici, and still hesitates to go to Prague: "we are well here, in all respects, except one, the atmosphere of Europe, which is perhaps also much changed, but which we still see as it was. With Prague, nothing is decided yet and I don't see clearly in all that, which also worries me"...
